His 2012 directorial debut, co-produced with Lesley Manning, later released on DVD (now sold-out), is the retrospective documentary, Ghostwatch: Behind the Curtains which chronicles the production of, and reception to, the BBC's “legendary” 'Hallowe’en Hoax', GHOSTWATCH. In 2013, the film was added to the National Archive for posterity, and in 2016, was made available to download on BBC Store as part of the successful Frightmares collection. It is currently available to view in BFI Mediatheques, nationwide.

 

The project has also spawned two mini sequels, Behind the Table and Return To Foxhill, a transcript, two tie-in publications, and the annual event, National Séance. An early example of live 'Tweet-casting', this special evening has taken place annually from 2010-onwards with the widest-reaching event ranking as high as Fourth Place on the national leaderboards, and over 190,000 users reached within twenty-four hours.

His written articles and photography have been published by a number of professional websites and publications, including reddwarf.co.uk, SFX, and Fangoria. In 2014, he headed a ground-up redesign of The Official Red Dwarf Fan Club's magazine, Back to Reality, and for the show's eleventh series, collaborated on several featured animation sequences, including the iconic Starbug cockpit. His blog, Caviar Vindaloo catalogues and indexes assorted minutiae across episodes, focusing on costumes and props.

Rich has made special guest appearances at Horror in the East, Miniclick Duke of York's, London Film and Comic Con [Earl's Court], Gorilla [Manchester], Genesis Cinema, Birmingham Horror Con, Sci-Fi Scarborough, Sci-Fi Weekender, and has been interviewed by Following The Nerd, Den of Geek, Supernerds UK, It'll Be Alright In The Nineties, and The Overlook Theatre.
